#NephMadness 2025: Blue Ribbon Panel
NephMadness 2025 starts in less than 3 weeks! Our 9-member Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP) will decide the outcome of each matchup as we March towards crowning a new champion. Here are the folks to blame when your brackets go bust:
Roger Rodby is a Professor of Medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where he was the Nephrology Training Program Director from 2000-24. He served as ASN Board Review Co-director from 2017-23. His interests in nephrology include everything except transplantation.
Deidra Crews @drdeidracrews.bsky.social
Deidra Crews is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She holds appointments with the Schools of Public Health and Nursing, the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, the Center on Aging and Health, and the Center for Health Equity, where she is Deputy Director. Her work has elucidated root causes of the disproportionate burden of kidney disease among socially marginalized populations; addressed social and behavioral risk factors for adverse kidney outcomes through interventions; and informed guidelines for optimizing care processes for people with kidney failure.

Kirk Campbell is the Chief of the Renal Division at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a physician-scientist with an interest in glomerular disease. Dr. Campbell is the President of the National Kidney Foundation, and a member of the Board of Directors of the NephCure Foundation.

Samira Farouk is a transplant nephrologist and an Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Education, Associate Program Director of the Nephrology Fellowship Program, and Social Media Director of the Division of Nephrology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is the co-founder of NephSIM, co-faculty lead of Renal Fellow Network, and former Executive Committee member of NephMadness. Dr. Farouk is currently the President of the New York Society of Nephrology, on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Kidney Medicine, and Clinical Transplantation.

Tom Oates is a Consultant Physician in the Departments of Renal Medicine and Transplantation, and General Medicine, at the Royal London Hospital in London, UK. He has broad interests in nephrology, particularly in hereditary kidney diseases, hemodialysis, and the use of data in medical care.
Meredith Atkinson
Meredith Atkinson is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she also serves as Director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical & Translational Research Predoctoral Clinical Research Training Program. She is the current president of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology. Her research focuses on outcomes after prenatal interventions for fetal renal failure, and identifying modifiable risk factors for CKD progression in children.
Linnys Alcántara Quiroga @unalinnys
Linnys Alcántara Quiroga is an Internal Medicine specialist and a Nephrology Fellow at the General Hospital of Mexico “Dr. Eduardo Liceaga” in Mexico City. Her clinical interests include acute kidney injury and hemodialysis. She was the highest scoring fellow in NephMadness 2024, and is excited to be part of the Blue Ribbon panel, as it offers a novel and interesting opportunity for learning.
Clodagh Sweeney @clodaghsweeney
Clodagh Sweeney is the Clinical Lead for Pediatric Nephrology at Children’s Health Ireland. She trained in Northern Ireland and Canada. She loves NephMadness and is delighted to join the Blue Ribbon Panel as NephMadness 2024’s highest scoring attending. As the pediatric nephrologist on the BRP, she puts the “kid” in kidney!
David Rush
David Rush is a platinum-selling recording artist, former in-center dialysis patient, and dedicated home hemodialysis advocate. He hosts the WinsOnly Lifestyle Podcast and serves on the Executive Committee of the Northwestern Kidney Core Center (Nu-GoKIDNEY), the board for KidneyX and The Kidney Health Initiative (KHI), and the Stakeholder Board for the NIH APOL1 and Racism Study Campaign. He is a corporate Kidney Care Options (KCO) educator at US Renal Care and the Patient Co-Investigator & Co-Chair of the Patient Advisory Group for the ExPand research project. In recognition of his tireless advocacy, David was awarded the ASN President’s Medal in November 2022 for his contributions to elevating the patient voice and expanding modality choices in kidney care.
