Kidney Week 2013: Lori Hartwell and the President’s Award

Lori Hartwell and the President’s Award

This was a great award on a few levels.

Lori Hartwell won the President’s Medal. Lori initiated dialysis at age 2. She did not disclose her primary disease. She discussed her disease course and 4 kidney transplants. She discussed how she started the Renal Support Network to allow patients to help patients. She also started the Kidney Prom to help the self esteem of pediatric dialysis patients.

I think it is so important to give a high profile award to a patient because they are the reason we are here.
