The most desireable time for a patient with ESRD to become pregnant is after recieving a kidney transplant. Important considerations still need to be made in regards to changes in the immunosuppressive medication regimen. For instance, both mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and rapamycin should be discontinued. Patients with a kidney transplant who are or are planning on becoming pregnant should be followed closely by a nephrologist/ obstetrician team as this is a high risk pregnancy.
