eAJKD poll: Living Kidney Donation in African Americans with a Family History of ESRD

Share your thoughts with eAJKD in this online poll on living donation in African Americans with a family history of ESRD.

Currently 51% of living-donor kidneys come from family members of patients with ESRD. In the December issue of AJKD, McClellan et al. found that African Americans with a family history of ESRD where more likely to develop ESRD. This is supported by the recently discovered relationship of APOL1 gene polymorphisms and risk for FSGS and HTN leading to ESRD. This raises the question of whether African Americans with a first-degree relative with ESRD should be eligible for living kidney donation. A recent post had highlighted this very point.
