Introducing the 2022-23 AJKD Editorial Interns
The AJKD editors are excited to continue the Editorial Internship Program for a fifth year, and thank all the applicants who responded to the recent call for applications.
Please join us in welcoming the AJKD Editorial Internship Class of 2023: Alissar El Chediak, Jeffrey T. Ha, Seolhyun Lee, Mengyao Tang, and Dilushi Wijayaratne.
Alissar El Chediak
Dr. Alissar El Chediak is currently a transplant nephrology fellow at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born and raised in Lebanon where she attended medical school and completed her internal medicine residency at the American University of Beirut. After that, she moved to the United States to pursue her nephrology fellowship at Vanderbilt. Dr. El Chediak has been involved in research since medical school and dedicated a year as a research fellow before starting her residency. She continues her scholarly activities during her fellowship as well; she is the lead author on several published articles. Her research interests include increasing organ access to minorities, ABO-incompatible kidney transplant, treatment of COVID in kidney transplant patients, and simultaneous kidney-and-pancreas transplant. Jeffrey T. Ha
Dr. Jeffrey Ha is a nephrology fellow at St George Hospital, Sydney. He attended medical school at University of Sydney and completed his nephrology training in the East Coast Renal Network in Sydney. He is currently undertaking a PhD through The George Institute for Global Health, to better understand and manage the high burden of cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). His research interests are in epidemiology, clinical trials, and expertise in anticoagulation and the treatment of cardiovascular disease in CKD. He is passionate about teaching and quality improvement. When not pursuing his gastronomic interests, you will find him spending time with his wife and newborn son. Follow him @_jeffreyha.
Seolhyun Lee
Dr. Seolhyun Lee is currently a clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University. He attended medical school at Chungnam National University in South Korea, and completed internal medicine residency at Cooper University Hospital, NJ. During his postdoctoral research fellowship at Stanford University, he studied clearances of uremic solutes and improving those in hemodialysis, which was funded by American Society of Nephrology. Additionally, he has clinical interests in onco-nephrology. Dr. Lee is a proud father of three children. He shamelessly admits going to work feels like a vacation to him. Follow him @LeeSeolhyun.
Mengyao Tang
Dr. Mengyao Tang is currently a clinical and research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital /Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She attended medical school at Zhejiang University in China and obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She completed her internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is passionate about academic nephrology. Her research interests include exploring the role of post-translational protein modification biomarkers and precision nutrition in cardio-renal-metabolic disease. She enjoys reading non-fiction, yoga, hiking, pelotons, traveling, and trying new restaurants in her free time. Follow her @tammyyaotang.
Dilushi Wijayaratne
Dilushi Wijayaratne graduated from the Faculty of Medicine Colombo in 2010 with First Class Honours. She completed her MD (Medicine) in 2016 and was board-certified as a nephrologist in 2020. She joined the Department of Clinical Medicine as a lecturer in 2020 and serves as an honorary consultant nephrologist at the National hospital of Sri Lanka and the National institute of nephrology, Dialysis and Transplant. Currently she is reading for an MSc in Clinical Trials, University of Oxford. She is interested in medical writing and education. She is a member of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) Social Media team, a commentator for ISN eDigest and a faculty member of the Nephrology Social Media Collaborative. She is a member of the Sri Lanka Society of Nephrology. Her research interests include lupus and other glomerular disorders. Follow her @Dilushiwijay.
