Call for Applications: AJKD Editorial Internship Program 2023-24
AJKD invites applications for its Editorial Internship Program, which will provide editorial experience to early career researchers interested in education, teaching, or medical editing/writing.
AJKD Editorial Interns will have the opportunity to follow manuscripts from submission to publication, gaining experience in the peer review process by using original submissions to develop skills in assessing manuscripts’ novelty, validity, and clinical relevance. They will meet regularly with AJKD editors via Zoom video conference for an overview of different roles within the journal and discuss ethical issues in journal publication and management.
AJKD Editorial Interns will be invited to attend the annual Editorial Board meeting and Editors’ Dinner during Kidney Week. For the duration of the internship year, they will receive complimentary membership to the National Kidney Foundation and free registration to the NKF Spring Clinical Meetings. In addition, they will be recognized on the website and masthead of the journal.
Eligible applicants will include:
- Trainees in fellowship programs who have completed at least one year of clinical nephrology training or trainees in postdoctoral programs with a strong focus on kidney diseases;
OR - Early career clinicians or researchers (MD, PhD, or equivalent) not more than two years after first faculty appointment who have a strong focus on kidney diseases.
Selection of AJKD Editorial Interns will consider candidates’ research experience and writing skills. The internship program will run from September 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. Interns can expect to devote 2-4 hours per week to the program. Applicants from across the world are welcomed but must be able to attend these meetings:
- Internship calls on 1st Thursdays and 3rd Fridays, 3-4.30pm ET (September-June)
- Editorial calls on Mondays, 3.30-5pm ET (October and February)
Application Materials:
- CV
- Letter of interest
- Letter from supervisor recommending the candidate and providing a commitment to ensure sufficient release time to attend internship and editorial calls
Please apply by e-mail to ajkd@pennmedicine.upenn.edu, attaching all 3 documents as separate DOC/PDF files, with the subject line “Editorial Internship Application.”
