#NephMadness 2023 Champion: Organ Pool
Nephrons, we proudly present the 2023 NephMadness Champion as voted by the Blue Ribbon Panel:
Access to Kidney Transplantation vs Transitions of Care
This is it! The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally come and the 2023 NephMadness Champion has been named. Supportive Care for Kidney Failure’s deep bench was no match up for Organ Pool’s aggressive offense. Organ Pool with the decisive victory to win NephMadness bragging rights for the next year!
Organ Pool wins 6-3
Comments from the BRP:
“In the next few years, organ pool is going to be the main key player in the management of chronic kidney disease. At present, in some countries, the deceased donor waiting list can be as long as 10 years after starting dialysis. With the growing concern over non-communicable diseases in the community, the extended donor criteria are expanding. So, in my opinion, Organ Pool is the perfect choice to be the champion of NephMadness this year.”
“Tough choice. Both are important topics. But perhaps if we had a ‘bigger pool’, fewer people would need supportive care for kidney failure.”
“Increasing the donor pool is a major initiative of the NKF. We are working on a ‘Transplant for All’ initiative that will include increasing transplant organ utilization and catalyzing the implementation of science in this area.”
“Supportive Care for Kidney Failure is a strong contender; however, in this match up, Organ Pool will win and take home the championship. As part of the kidney transplant conference, Organ Pool makes the moves and the plays that win the game.”
“I believe this to be more topical (Supportive Care for Kidney Failure).“
