Kirk Campbell @kirkcampbell
Kirk Campbell is Professor of Medicine, Professor of Pharmacological Sciences and Founding Director of the Center for Kidney Disease Innovation at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is a physician-scientist with an interest in glomerular disease. He is the President-Elect of the National Kidney Foundation, and a member of the Board of Directors of the NephCure Foundation.
Bjørn Helge Haug @BjornHelgeHaug
Bjørn Helge Haug is a practicing nephrologist, chief consultant physician for the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit at the University Hospital of Northern Norway and an Associate Professor in Clinical Medicine with a specialization in nephrology. In addition to his clinical duties, he actively engages in teaching and research at UiT the Arctic University of Norway. He was the second highest-scoring attending in NephMadness 2023.
Matt James
Matt James is a Renal Registrar at Hammersmith Hospital, London. As a newcomer to NephMadness he was delighted to be the highest scoring Fellow in the 2023 edition and is excited to be a part of this year’s Blue Ribbon Panel.

Michelle A. Josephson is Professor of Medicine and Surgery in the Section of Nephrology and Transplant Institute at University of Chicago. She serves as Medical Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation and Program Director of the Transplant Nephrology Fellowship. Dr. Josephson is President of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN).
Richard Knight @knightra
Richard A. Knight is an Instructor in Management and Business Policy at the College of Business at Bowie State University. He is a former hemodialysis patient who received a kidney transplant approximately 17 years ago. He is President of the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), a member of the NIDDK Board of Advisors, Co-Chair of the Community Engagement Committee on the Kidney Precision Medicine Project, Co-Chair of the Patient Engagement Subgroup for NIDDK’s Strategic Plan, and a member of the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients Review Committee.
Tom Oates @jfnephlolz
Tom Oates is a Consultant Physician in the Departments of Renal Medicine and Transplantation, and General Medicine, at the Royal London Hospital in London, UK. He has broad interests in nephrology, particularly in hereditary kidney diseases, hemodialysis, and the use of data in medical care.
Sylvia E. Rosas @sylviaerosas
Sylvia E. Rosas is a nephrologist and epidemiologist at the Joslin Diabetes Center and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Her clinical and research interest include diabetic kidney disease as well as health disparities in individuals with CKD. Dr. Rosas is the President of the National Kidney Foundation and chairs the NKF Health Equity Advisory Committee.
Jodi Smith @jodismith0820
Jodi Smith is a Professor of Pediatrics and an Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Washington. She is the Medical Director of the Kidney Transplant Program at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Medical Director of the Research Integration Hub of the Seattle Children’s Research Institute. She is the current President of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology. Her research focuses on improving kidney transplant outcomes in the pediatric transplant population.
