The problem with increasing calories and protein supply in AKI is the lack of data. No compelling data has shown improved outcomes with increased calorie and/or protein supply. However, increased protein delivery is associated with increased uremia and may accelerate the need for dialysis or prolong dialysis dependence. This is too important of an issue to force physicians to read the tea leaves. Demand a RCT!
