Routine clinical monitoring (inspection, auscultation, cannulation issues, prolonged bleeding for stick, decreased Kt/V) of an arteriovenous access for signs of stenosis is inexpensive. When such combination of monitoring techniques is employed, they can provide similar accuracy as expensive surveillance techniques. Many units combine this technique with surveillance.
