Polyoma BK virus has emerged as a threat to kidney allograft survival. In fact, studies have demonstrated polyoma BK virus affecting ~7-10% of kidney transplants causing interstitial nephritis. Current strategies for treatment include decreasing immunosuppression and other approaches are under investigation.
