GWAS approaches have led to the discovery of multiple renal risk variants including helping to identify APOL1 variants. We have also learned much about UMOD nephropathy and the function of Tamm-Horsfall protein (Uromodulin) from a renal function GWAS in which UMOD variants popped up as being genome-wide significant for eGFR and hypertension (see Team AD Tubulointerstitial Nephritis).
