Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is an important viral pathogen post kidney transplant as ~75% of the US adult population is seropositive from past infection. In patients at risk for infection, prophylactic antiviral agents are typically given to suppress viral replication. CMV infection can lead to gastroenteritis, bone marrow suppression and direct infection of the kidney among others manifestations.
