UpstreamHemodynamics

Local hemodynamics is thought to play an important role in the fate of arteriovenous access maturation and ultimate longevity. The type of flow “sensed” by the endothelial cell has been shown to influence pathologic neointimal overgrowth. Endothelial cells much prefer smooth and laminar flow over irregular and disturbed flow. Improvements into the surgical technique could potentially minimize these untoward hemodynamic events.
